Ever since Beijing hosted the Olympic Summer Games in 2008 and South Africa the Soccer WorldCup in 2010 the general public has been become more aware of discrimination against prostitutes. Authorities always try to "clean up" their cities to present streets in shiny cleanliness. But how about Rio de Janeiro in Brazil hosting the Olympic Summer Games in 2016? Rio has tried to clamp down on prostitutes and red-light establishments during its 2014 hosting of the soccer World Cup. Their efforts have been in vain since they faced the same problem as London in 2012. With prostitution being a legal business authorities had to keep their hands of off the ladies who sold love for local currencies. But their plan worked out in a different way:
Revenues generated in prostitution venues sharply collapsed during the soccer World Cup in 2014 (source). That was a global trend, not just in the hosting country of Brazil. Even German FKK Clubs had suffered financial losses. Patrons preferred to watch soccer together with friends, family or alone at home rather than together with hookers inside a brothel. This trend is expected to continue during the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.
However, Rio prostitutes are prepared to zqueeze at least a little bit of more money out of this years Olympic games. They are targeting Olympic athletes who are scheduled to arrive around 2 weeks before the competition starts. They hope to offer cheap sex to the best athletes of the World for steep discounts, sort of super market sale for sex as reported by British Yellow Press star the Daily Mail (link here).
For local punters who aren't interested in sports this years Olympics are great. They can be assured of cheap sex as supply outweighs demand. Sex tourists will not be traveling to Rio this summer, anyhow. Steep accommodation rates during the games are not affordable for traveling, budget minded Johns.
